Objectives of the Alliance
|
- To increase the level of awareness of all stakeholders/large consumers with regard to Universal Salt Iodization.
- Highlight the importance of iodized salt to advocate for use of iodized salt in products where salt is used.
- Advocate for promulgation of National IDDs Control act.
- Promote/monitor the implementation of IDDs control legislation enforcement.
- Watch out for To improve the availability and utilization of iodized salt among general public, investigate
the myths and report the facts.
- To increase the commitment of governments, civil society, media and policy makers for the maternal and infant
health and nutrition.
- Celebration of Global IDDs Day and maximum coverage of the issue

Raise mass awareness on the importance of Iodized salt intake as the preventive measure for Iodine Deficiency
Disorders control
- Create media hype to take appropriate measures to achieve above mentioned objectives.
- Enhance commitment of stakeholders/ salt producers / large consumers on USI and iodized salt intake in food
products.
- Appreciation awards will be given on best media writings and appearances on USI/IDDs
- A Committee will be formed, which will consist of one representative from each, print as well as electronic
media alliance, TheNetwork and UNICEF to evaluate and select members for appreciation awards.
- he evaluation will be done during first two quarters.
Suggested Activities
- Carry a strong media campaign to support the technical objectives.
- Highlight promotion of iodized salt intake, need of IDDs control laws and Dissemination of information on
myths, facts about iodized salt intake through regular articles, features, press releases in the respective
outlets focusing on new developments, policy areas, challenges.
- Monitoring the IDDs legislation enforcement
- Maximum coverage of IDDs related issues in media on Global IDDs Day
- Participate in the National Seminar on Global IDDs Day and follow up meetings to (achievements, further
strategies, developments)
Implementation mechanisms/indicators of effectiveness
- No of writings, appearances on the issue during each quarter.
- Personal initiatives to highlight the importance of iodized salt intake, advocate for promulgation of IDDs
control Act and bring up latest developments.
- Journalists will be required to furnish TheNetwork with copies of their
