Sheesha Banned in Islamabad Rural Sub – Division

Following a campaign against the rising fashion of Sheesha smoking by TheNetwork, Islamabad District Administration imposed a complete ban over Sheesha in rural sub-division on 15 November 2006. All major hotels and motels located at Murree Road fall within the jurisdiction of order 144 CrPC issued by Assistant Commissioner Dr Ehtasham Anwar.
TheNetwork has undertaken a research on this new fad and how hotels are offering flavoured Sheesha to even underage youth. The report was released to media.
Through a letter writing campaign the Tobacco Free Initiative Project of TheNetwork had asked the Islamabad District Administration, Police and Capital Development Authority for eradication of this new trend which is influencing thousands of youngsters in Pakistan. Deputy Commissioner advised both Assistant Commissioners and Magistrates to take immediate action in this regard.
Assistant Commissioner Rural Sub – Division issued orders for a complete ban over Sheesha and warned the hotels to stop offering this addictive substance to the masses. The official also issued a statement to a national newspaper elaborating health hazards related of Sheesha and urged other government authorities to apply the same ban across the country.
This ban is applicable on fifty percent area of federal capital. TheNetwork has urged the Assistant Commissioner of the remaining part of the city to impose similar ban. Tobacco Free Initiative – Pakistan will continue to pursue Assistant Commissioner Saddar and administration of Rawal Town, Rawalpindi to get Sheesha completely banned in the federal capital.
